Here’s Fake Blues and Counterfeit Ballads.

I love everything about it: developing musical ideas, writing the lyrics, searching for the right key in the rehearsal room and trying out other subtleties with the guys, listening to the songs grow in the studio and finally working on the cover and holding the finished work of art in my hands. Because I realized this while I was working on my first album, there was a second one, and by now I’m sure there will be more. But for now, let’s enjoy this one. Here are four tracks to give you a first impression.

Revenge of the Voodoo Doll

Heart

Bet You Hate Yourself for Dumping Me

Close but No Cigar

Tea Time ´til I Die is released.

Thoughts to record an album came up about tea time on Samhain 2017, while grilling some neck chops in light rain. Oli asked me about musical plans. As usual for years I said I had none, but I mentioned I was writing two new songs for the first time in an eternity. (One of them later became Welcome to Nostalgia. The other one I’m not sure about anymore. Might have been Five past Twelve, but I wouldn’t swear on it.) Oli suggested to record them and more. For the following weeks I browsed my archives to sort things out, reworked old stuff, created a bunch of new songs, and wondered what the hell this project was going to become. Plans were made, changed and rearranged many times.

In the beginning, we were talking about recording seven songs. When my sometimes fraternal, sometimes fatherly friend Wunky died in June 2018, aged only 58, I realised that time is not an endless resource. I came to the decision to use the capacities of a compact disc in terms of the total playing time. As there already were more than enough songs I knew I would like to do, it was just a matter of choice, diligence, and money. No rocket science (except the choice).

At last, Oli didn’t have the time to do what he would have liked to do. So finally Helge and I did the first takes with Manfred Schulz as engineer at Toxical Noise in July 2019. Many friends (all listed in the booklet) became involved. After fleeing from the bad influence of unicorns and enduring the boredom during the coronavirus pandemic shutdown, we finished recording in December 2021 and mixing, mastering and artwork in August 2022.

And there we are.

Here are a few tracks to tease you:

Sex Sells (I’m Buying Anyway)

Amber

Sugar

Burnin‘ Alive
